We had to being working on the design and aesthetic of this area way before we got started on Magical Valley because it was important to set a consistent design language for the corruption and evil forces as a whole for the game. This design language shows up in various spots in the game, for example Magical Valley gets more and more corrupted as the player progresses through it, or the Munchrooms from the Mushroom Forest have crystals made of that same energy.
